Edmonton Parkland

The viewing sites in this region feature some of the many lakes where small mammals, songbirds and a variety of migrating waterfowl enjoy the shelter and abundant food supplies of the parkland habitat. The parkland region falls between the dense mixedwood boreal forest to the north, and the prairie grassland to the south. Aspen and balsam poplar are common here, favouring richer soils where fires have occurred. Moderate precipitation along with variable soils and agricultural land uses create a unique mosaic of tall shrubs, deciduous trees, grassland and farmland.
